Driving licence 'period of grace' cut to four weeks
Drivers who incur three or more penalty points on their licence for a single offence now have just 28 days in which to return it to the appropriate enforcement authority (police, courts or Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) before it is revoked.
Previously, convicted drivers were allowed up to 12 months to surrender their driving licences for endorsement. The change follows a decision taken by the Home Office on 7 November.
Employers may want to ensure that employees who drive on company business are made aware of the new rule, and review how frequently they check their employees' driving licences.
